today I want to tell you a bit about the most exciting and exhausting day of my week at the Au Pair training school: Thursday, NYC day. You should know that St.Johns University isn't directly in NY, but about 1 ½ hrs away. On one day or half of that day, they take you directly to Manhattan for a quick bus tour. The tour was 50$ and a ticket for Top of the Rocks was 25$. Since my hostfamily bought the tour for me, I only had to get the Rocks ticket.
During the 2h tour the guide shows you the Statue of Liberty from afar, the 9/11 memorial, some of the major districts of the city like Soho etc and Times Square on the way to the Rockefeller Center.
Going up to the decks took about 15 minutes, as ou have to wait in line for security and elevators but it's totally worth it. Those of you who follow me on Twitter or Instagram have already seen a little sneak-peak of the amazing view. Here are some more of my impressions:
After that we had about 1 ½ h left to explore the city on our own and we did it the New York way: fast!
The rockefeller center is at 505 and we wanted to go to Times Square so we had to get to 7th avenue first and then go south. The only thing I really wanted was a Starbucks NY mug, because I collect those. We did that and basically hurried down 7th ave to go to M&M's World, Toys-R-Us etc.. I'm gonna let you look at what I saw here:
The bus pickup back to St. Johns was at 9:00pm across from the Empire State Building, so 34th and 5th (345). Our group was on time but we had to wait for the rest until 9:40pm.... mehh. Back at school it was time for packing! Friday (today, I'm at JFK as I write this) the Au Pairs get to their hostfamilies and I couldn't be more excited and at the same time afraid... I'll tell you more about the experience and what to expect when you might be in this situation, later.
Stay awesome,
Ellie
